GRAPHIC NOVEL | SELF-INITIATED | WORK IN PROGRESS
THE YEAR IS 2900.
The moon has imploded from meteoric activity, the composition of Earth’s atmosphere has drastically shifted, and what remains of humanity has split into three factions.
The Scorps have abandoned the polluted surface of Earth to live among the stars, fashioning city-like ships that hover aimlessly through the darkest reaches of space. The ‘purity’ of their humanity, free from organic or cybernetic implants, remains their last true attempt to covet power. The Scorp’s extravagant way of life relies on the energy crystals mined from meteorite fields by the Nomads, the wanderers of the galaxy.
Their ancestors never settled and neither do they - living in small communities on the same meteores they mine, using cybernetic enhancements and space mantas to travel from site to site. The Nomads form deep bonds with the space faring animals by training the young from birth and using their cybernetic implants to change the Manta’s biological makeup. This way both Nomads and Mantas are able to coexist in the harsh, unforgiving environments of space.
The last humans to live on earth became a group known as the Risvellians, or the ‘Awakened Peoples.’ Risvellians work as guardians of nature, changing their genetic makeup to adapt to the polluted areas of Earth’s surface by splicing human and plant DNA. They believe it is our duty as the last remaining members of humanity to atone for the mistakes and destruction of the past by committing to the regrowth and renewal of Earth’s environment. The comic below provides a glimpse into one Risvellian’s life on Earth’s surface, Velora, a guardian longing for adventure in the deepest reaches of Space...until they meet a mysterious and unexpected visitor.
